Update on the One Day's Wages Partnership
The Spark Ventures Partnership Trips provide an unmatched way to see the impact of our work in the field – and this July’s Groupon Partnership trip was an excellent example of that.
Thanks to a generous partnership with One Day’s Wages, children at our partner school in Zambia will soon be receiving new school uniforms, textbooks, and much needed new shoes. This summer’s partnership trip participants were integral in helping make this a possibility. Measuring the over 300 children served by our partner was not a small task, but in between lots of smiles, chatting, and Bemba lessons our team of 18 Groupon Trip Participants made short work of the task, getting to know the children as they went.
Shoes supported by this grant were purchased from a Zambian retailer and will be delivered soon, and new textbooks are also making their way into the hands of some very eager learners. Our powerful partnership with One Day’s Wages sponsored the purchase of the uniforms, which are now being made by women from the local community. Students will be receiving their new uniforms in time for the start of the new school year in January.
But, our partnership with One Day’s Wages can grow even larger and have an even stronger impact on these children’s lives with a little help from you. One Day’s Wages has challenged us and the Spark family to match their commitment with an additional $10,000 to cover the cost of two health clinics and HIV/AIDS education throughout the school year.
We’ve returned from our trip to Zambia this summer and seen the critical need to provide the students with additional healthcare support and now have even more zeal to push towards this goal. Can you help us get there? We’re over half the way there. We have raised just over $6,400 to support our educational and health initiatives in Zambia. We need your help to meet the high bar One Day's Wages has set for us and this is our last chance to do it – our campaign deadline is August 17th so we have just two weeks left to meet our goal!
This project will include:
- Staffing for the two 3-day clinics including local Zambian doctors and nurses stipends
- Malaria testing kits and medications to treat infection
- Medications to treat stomach and skin worms (very common seasonal ailments)
- Other clinic supplies and materials
- Year-round HIV/AIDS education programming
How much should you give? Here are a few ideas:
- Use ODW’s wage calculator to calculate and donate one day of your wages.
- Donate the dollar amount of your age this year.
- Give what you can; any amount will help us reach our goal of $10,000 for this incredible campaign.
